Done and dusted

Today was a glorious day in NC, much warmer than Sunday. I rode my bicycle to work and ...
...
...
managed to get past 2,000 miles. The clock started last year on March 17th when I bought the bike. It now stands at 2,004.

The next part is to see how many more miles I can get in before March 17th, then aim to do 10% more next year.

1000 Mbps !

I spent the weekend installing network cable under the house in the crawlspace, drilling holes through the floor and cutting access points in the drywall. It all went very well actually, even if it wasn't entirely drama free. The first hole I cut was to the outside of the wall mount - pretty dumb. I pressed it against the wall only to watch it disappear straight through. It was a hack, but I managed to correct it.

In all I installed four new wires all going to what is going to be the cupboard of technology. That piece of it went really well, and it looks great at that point - in fact, it all looks pretty good. It all worked first time as well - every connection was live without the need to play around with it all. Plugging the PC in and seeing a 100 Mbps connection was extremely gratifying - faster still when I install the new switch on the network.

A very successful weekend project.

Use the force

Me and the boys watched Return of the Jedi last night. I was doing my usual impressions of Darth and Chewy. Every time I did Chewy Ryan would say stop. I asked him why.

"Dad, you're too wookie !"

Bra-a-ins !

My wife put the remade Dawn of the Dead into our Netflix queue and we watched it last night. What a perfectly fine zombie movie - it's probably even better than the also superb 28 Days Later. There is no explanation provided of why people get infected and become flesh eating mutants, and the movie is all the better for it.

It's not one to share with the kids, and there was one scene that was very hard to take, but overall it gets 5 bloody chainsaws out of 5.
